Nothing Without You

Meaningful Lyrics #2 I heard a new song the other day.  It’s not a new song but it was the first time I had heard it.  It spoke to me:

Take these hands and lift them up
For I have not the strength to praise you near enough
For I have nothing, I have nothing without You
Take my voice and pour it out
Let it sing the songs of mercy I have found
For I have nothing, I have nothing without You

The world tells me I am special.  Am I?I am one of SEVEN BILLION people in the world.  SEVEN BILLION!  If I were gone tomorrow 99.99% of the world is a low estimate to the percentage of people whose lives would not change at all. I really am nothing.  No-thing.

Some people have told me that Christ died for me; that he would have died for me even if I were the only person on earth.  I’m not sure about that.  It sounds real nice but I don’t see anything like that in Scripture.  Christ did not die for only me.  He died for “Adam’s helpless race” as the old hymn reminds us.  Would he have died only for me?  It’s not really even a question that makes sense.

He died for all the “nothings”, including me.

He made it possible for EVERY person to be reconciled to their Heavenly Father and become the children of God (John 1:12) and receive the “riches of his glorious inheritance” (Ephesians 1:18).  This incredible opportunity is available for all of us who, without him, are nothing.  He gives us the opportunity to have to above and beyond our nothingness!

I am nothing without him.

But with him…I am in a very special group.

It doesn’t make me special, rather the one who made it all possible is infinitely special.

Do everything in love…
